About

Yooyang Wang (she/her)

She is a multidisciplinary theatre practitioner based in London, pursuing studies in Theatre Performance and Participation at Goldsmiths. Her foundation in sociology, developed during her undergraduate studies in China, deeply shapes how she observes power dynamics, social classification, and human behavior. However, realizing that academic analysis alone cannot intervene at the moment harm is lived, she turned to theatre as a practical response. Her work exists at the intersection of sociological inquiry and embodied performance, utilizing participatory art to resist social categorization and hold space for human complexity.

In the realm of applied theatre, Youyang continuously refines her practice to facilitate genuine dialogue and collective reflection. Whether designing drama in education programs for youth, bringing Playback Theatre to the elderly, or facilitating workshops for marginalized groups, her focus is on using theatre for social justice and civic engagement. By transforming personal, lived experiences into embodied narratives, she creates spaces where participants can safely explore ambiguity, recognize how their lives are shaped by broader social conditions, and build affective communities.

As a creator in the performance space, her work spans acting, directing, and stage managing, allowing her to engage with theatrical productions from multiple vantage points. Her training includes Jacques Lecoq techniques, contemporary dance, and contact improvisation. She explores site-specific metaphors and shared gravity, using the body to challenge institutional narratives and invite audiences into unfiltered, sensory experiences.

Beyond the stage, Youyang actively engages with the broader arts ecosystem as a creative producer, cultural facilitator, and visual documentarian. Her operational capabilities are highly versatile, encompassing project management, photography, and serving as a bilingual interpreter for international artistic residencies. From leading digital marketing strategies grounded in sociological insights to coordinating large-scale national theatre gatherings, she bridges the gap between artistic concepts and public execution. This multifaceted approach allows her to connect diverse cultural vocabularies and cultivate sustainable, inclusive creative environments.
